SDS 2020 - 'New Talent' and a HP sponsorship!

After showcasing my graduate collection at New Designers last year, I was scouted by Trendease International to exhibit as 'New Talent' at the Surface Design Show 2020.

This was a huge opportunity and my first solo exhibit as Jardell Hill Designs after leaving university.

The Surface Design show is a three day event held in Islington, London, at the Business Design Centre. There are over 150 exhibitor stands spreading over 3 floors and the event features a variety of presentations, talks and conferences.

A special component to the show is the ‘New Talent’ area, curated by Jennifer Castoldi at Trendease.

Here, I was amongst 32 other new designers and artists, showcasing my first wallpaper collection – Points of Nature.

I was honoured to be sponsored by HP who kindly printed my exhibition display and samples with the HP ColourPro technology.

This year's show focused on sustainability and it was fantastic to see so many new and innovative sustainable products and processes. The ink used for our non-woven wallpaper is water-based rather than solvent based and our paper is sourced from managed FSC® forests, meaning the paper has been harvested in a socially and environmentally responsible way.

We make every effort to be as environmentally friendly as we possibly can and the sponsorship was a great way to highlight this aspect of our products. My hope is that sustainable products continue to rise and the show was a great way to bring attention to the possibilities.

I found being involved in the New Talent area to be a very useful gateway to the industry. It allowed me to meet other designers, manufacturers and makers that I otherwise wouldn’t have and it was an encouraging environment with some great conversations.

I am still in touch with the designers I exhibited alongside and am inspired by their work.

I was also featured in 'The World of Hospitality' magazine!

If you are interested in visiting next years show, I would highly recommend it!
